Gender Work

Weekend Warrior - May 3 - 5

If you are looking to efficiently max out your support of local music this weekend, then you definitely want to hit the 3rd annual Good How Are You Fest. Brought to us by Good How Are You Records and Paper Scissors Media, the two-day event will be kicking things off this afternoon at its de facto homebase, South Philly’s Tralfamadore, where Philly acts such as Gender Work and Yeenar will be getting folks warmed up for the stacked Day 2 festivities. On Saturday at Pleasure Mountain Ballroom, you might notice some familiar names on the billing from this corner of The Deli. There will be past Record of the Month recipients Curtis Cooper, Secret Nudist Friends, and Blushed, alongside former Featured Artist(s) Poll nominees and winners Kelsey Cork & The Swigs, Puppy Angst, and Busy Bee Project, so it should be easy to see why we think this is the place where you need to be this weekend. Because you surely deserve a bit of pleasure in your life! – H.M. Kauffman

Weekend Warrior, November 23 - 25

World Cafe Live will be showcasing a trio of local talents tonight. Clarity of thought arrives via youth as Masie Blu hits the stage. Blu blends soulful vocals, while also injecting a poetic, spoken-word approach. An unwavering confidence and wisdom shine throughout her music, providing a reassuring stability that cultivates a peaceful, motivating atmosphere. When paired with an array of refreshing, liquidy grooves, the power of those words/mantras is unlocked. This evening’s billing will be fortified by the genre-melding electro-experimentations of Kilamanzego, whom continuously creates an imaginative landscape, weaving a seamless quilt of sound that simultaneously celebrates the details and transitions. The silky, synthpop exploits of Gender Work comfortably complete this lineup, sharpening the mind whilst providing the body a vehicle or catalyst to let loose and get down. – Michael Colavita

New Track: "Summer Rain" - Gender Work & Murayama

Hovering on the threshold of a refreshing, meditative state and the sadness brought on by internal/external crisis, “Summer Rain,” the collaborative single from Gender Work & Murayama, hits complex notes. There’s a sense of destruction, which attaches itself to the intense storm of drums, while the flute, synth, and vocals softly unite in the cleansing opportunity for a fresh start. Gender Work will be performing this evening at Kung Fu Necktie, with Ships In The Night, Overwinter, and Ethan Lipscomb. (Photo by Yassine Boundouq)

New Gender Work LP Available for Streaming & Purchase

Gender Work recently released Disruption, a full-length series of synth-pop that could (at least temporarily) relax the tensions caused by the daily news cycle. In its place, warm vapors of keys, mingling with decisive backbeats, uncoil the body, breathing in a refreshing atmosphere. Gender Work is penciled into the lineup at South Philly's Tralfamadore on Thursday, August 24, with Slow Clover, Missangelbird, and Busy Bee. (Photo by Sam Hollander)
