B Boys

B Boys open for Shame at Market Hotel 03.23, playing Coachella

Last year’s Dada was a mission statement from B Boys, highlighting the group’s late ‘70s-early ‘80s art-punk influences and earning the band some well-deserved critical praise (ours included). It’s 30 minutes of sharply cut punk dressed in the disjointed musings of its titular dada philosophy. Since then, the Brooklyn trio has kept busy and, so far, 2018 looks to be no different. On March 23rd, B Boys will open for UK post-punkers Shame before heading west next month to play both weekends of Coachella along with a handful of dates around the region. – Cameron Carr

B Boys announce LP 'Dada' + kick off tour at Murmrr Ballroom on 05.20

One of the coolest emerging NYC bands in the latest wave of post punk inspired groups to invade the big apple, B Boys are looking forward to a busy summer of 2017. Their debut LP 'Dada' will drop on June 16, and they are planning on building momentum towards that date with a month long US tour in support of Florida's Merchandise. The kick off date is on May 20th at a little known Brooklyn space near Prospect Park called Murmrr Ballroom.

Check out the band's latest video for 'Energy' below, and their new single 'Walking' at the bottom of this post.

Out In The Streets Festival comes to Ridgewood, Queens on 7/16 and 7/17

Whoever said Queens isn’t cool (hey! it's the new Brooklyn!) surely must not have heard of the Out In The Streets Festival coming to the Onderdonk House in Ridgewood for its fourth year on July 16-17.  Filled with some of our favorite local artists, such as The So So Glos and Frankie Rose, the festival is primarily a rock'n'roll fest. Bands will be playing with a backdrop of art, food and the Ridgewood market.  We’ve prepared a playlist to give a taste of the artists playing this weekend, but be sure to head over to the Out In The Streets festival to hear them for yourself. - Madeleine Grossman

B Boys talk about guitar pedals on Delicious Audio

Brooklyn B Boys came seemingly out of nowhere in March 2016 with debut EP 'No Worry No Mind' (on cult local label Captured Tracks). The album caught immediately a lot of attention (certainly ours) also thanks to the promotion the band received from touring with Parquet Courts soon after the release. The three gentlemen would have found themselves at home in Ohio around 1977, when seminal bands like Devo and Pere Ubu were making music so cool that semi-forgotten by God places like Akron and Cleveland became suddenly the epicenter of the rock'n'roll world. B Boys blend those influences with a sound that flirts with the reverberations of surf music and the gritty fuzziness of garage rock. In line with the DIY scene's ethos and budget, the band's guitarist Britton Walker has a few, trusted, mostly borrowed pieces of gear, we asked him a few questions about them in our blog Delicious Audio (link below). Check out their second official single 'Seagulls' below.

Buzz Alert: Brooklyn's B Boys (back from tour with Parquet Courts) play Alphaville on 5.27

New York’s B Boys will not be breakdancing when you see them live - as their name might suggest. Instead, they will be bobbing their heads to their frenzied, punk inspired songs that bears resemblance to early Devo and the slacking post punk of their buddies Parquet Courts. The track “Get A Grip” off their latest EP, No Worry No Mind (out on Captured Tracks), demonstrates the feverish nature of the trio's music, and is complete with gang vocals and vibrant guitar lines referencing the '80s. It’s dense, fast and anxiety inducing music, also because of the sudden introduction of odd tempos in the song's chorus, without mentioning lyrics like “Oh no, I can’t get a grip!” sung with the urgency of mad men. The trio just finished playing a string of shows with Parquet Courts, including a sold out one at Webster Hall on May 20th, and will be performing next at Alphaville on May 27th. Stream their track “Get A Grip” below! - John Honan

We added this song to The Deli's playlist of Best songs by emerging NYC artists - check it out!
