Hemming

New Hemming EP Available for Streaming & Purchase

Waiting/Wasting is the new EP from Candice Martello-led Hemming. A pensive, piano-anchored, personal journey unfolds. These songs occupy a solemn, isolating space that gathers and exhibits a resilient strength. You can catch Hemming performing next in Philly on Friday, May 31 at Ortlieb’s.

Weekend Warrior, December 8 - 10

Tonight, Strand of Oaks begins a weekend-long stay at Boot & Saddle, billed as Winter Classic 2017. Each evening’s billing includes a different ascending opening act, doubling down on the local lines. Unfortunately, Friday and Saturday’s shows with Slaughter Beach, Dog and John Dyer Baizley are already sold out. However, that leaves Sunday night’s twin billing with Hemming. An earnest ease materializes within; heart-worn stories tap into a time-tested folk-Americana grit and resilience. Whether pared-down to its soulful singer/songwriter essence, or pushed to volatile instrumental ends, Candice Martello can shake one down to the core. – Michael Colavita

New Track: "Dreams" (Fleetwood Mac Cover) - Hemming

After recently catching Stevie Nicks perform at the Wells Fargo Center, Candice Martello, a.k.a. Hemming, became inspired to take on a Fleetwood Mac classic. "She told me to follow my dreams," and it led her to work on this killer acoustic version of "Dreams," which was recorded in Martello's basement. Enjoy! (Photo by John Ryan)

American Trappist Opening for Oldermost at JB's Aug. 27

A commanding presence draws one towards the songs of American Trappist, the new project from Joe Michelini (formerly of River City Extension). After releasing three EPs in succession, compromising the totality of his self-titled debut album, which will be available on September 2 via Death Salon, American Trappist places spellbinding lyricism at the forefront. While the context shifts from the ghostly mysterious to a heartfelt, emotional spectrum, it’s equally captivating in sincerity, shrouded in Americana. The gripping, soulful folk of Candice Martello, a.k.a. Hemming, opens the evening. She'll be performing solo, which may give her the freedom to unleash some new material. Oldermost closes out the bill, providing a sense of calm. Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 N. Frankford Ave., 9pm, $10, 21+ - Michael Colavita

American Trappist - Nothing Short of Faithful from Brian L. Tice Jr.

Shaking Through w/Hemming

For the premiere episode of the new season of Weathervane Music's Shaking Through (above), the documentary series revamped its usual format a bit, giving us a more in-depth look at their featured artist Hemming (a.k.a. Candice Martello), who has already had quite an interesting journey in the music industry. From getting her feet wet fronting the indie-punk duo Omar to winning VH1's reality show music competition Make or Break: The Linda Perry Project, you definitely learn some valuable lessons from Martello's experiences and get the honesty that she's now trying to achieve with her music. You also find her creating a wonderful track, "All I Want," with friends Augusta Koch and Allegra Anka of Cayetana and Matt Schimelfenig and Pat Brier of Three Man Cannon. Take the new single for a spin and download it for free below!
