If you're a fan of trippy lo-fi folk rock much like that of, say, Kurt Vile or Kevin Morby, and you're NOT already listening to Portland's Jackson Boone, you're majorly missing out on some serious misty magic. A natural born songwriter, Jackson has been making music and playing festivals around the country since 2014. Today, he's releasing a new full length and gearing up to hit the road in support of it.

Organic Light Factory was inspired by the continual changes Jackson and his band the Ocean Ghosts experience as a result of their constant songwriting and touring. The songs are like a diary of their journey so far, showing personal transformation as well. "Don't" and "Mystic Winds (from the East)" are all we've heard on it so far, so you'll have to catch the rest of the tracks at the album release show/tour kickoff.

Head over to Mississippi Studios tonight at 9pm to hear the album performed live and in full, say goodbye the band and catch some sets from Cat Hoch, Sinless and Wave Action as well. 

Back for its second year, the Portland Psych Fest has made good with presenting what's finest in the psych realm along the West Coast. This is exactly what we can expect from this weekened's happenings as well.

Starting tomorrow night and running all day Saturday, Portland Psych Fest features 17 artists and 3 DJs from here all the way down to Mexico, with a couple hailing from Idaho and Chicago. Four artists are slated to represent good ol' PDX, with two performing each night of the fest.

The much adored Jacksoon Boone will be taking the stage Friday along with Zozma, whose witchy psych includes trippy elements pulled from Middle Eastern pop.

Hawkeye's lo-fi indie britpop will surely delight fans of Spiritualized, as their influence can be heard throughout Hawkeye's songs. For a band made up of members of Souvenir Driver and Hollow Sidewalks, the influence makes sense and has only been perfected by the members' all around mastery. 

Portland psych can't really be discussed without mentioning Cambrian Explosion, who even for being in the scene three years have already solidified their place in it. Internal changes within the band haven't hindered them in any sense musically. They'll be on a few slots before headliners Spindrift and will be helping properly close out an intense weekend.

The 2016 Mississippi Street Fair is TOMORROW and it couldn't have come at a better time in the week with all of the awful, tragic occurrences in the news lately. Starting at 10am, the street fair will be hosting almost 40 bands along with two beer gardens, a rib-off competition, a dunk tank and the awarding of the Mayor of Mississippi Ave....all for free!

Five different stages will base all the artists at different intersections along Mississippi Ave., with one fully dedicated to music for the kids. Get your fill of r&b and soul with Blossom and Ural Thomas & the Pain, dance out of this world with Dreckig, go into an indie daze with Candace and Little Star, and try not to get confused by the three-in-a-row lineup of Jackson Boone, Boone Howard and Barna Howard at the Courtyard Stage, plus so much more.

Portland's Jackson Boone is the latest in a long line of Syd Barrett acolytes going back to David Bowie and Marc Bolan. Boone, in fact, works past much of Barrett's tension en route to spaced-out oddities as dramatic and modern as they are retro. Check out single Runaway from his latest LP Natural Changes. Today marks the beginning of WhiskeyFest NW's Whiskeytown USA festival--which pairs whiskey with a natural friend: music. Tonight catch Jackson Boone for a hot, psychadelic mixer. If you're in the mood for something a bit more bloodthirsty, head to Double Barrel on Saturday to catch a free show from Roselit Bone. Their haunting, chaotic Western music will leave you with whiplash--and they've added an accordian player to the lineup. The band embarks on a West Coast tour this month, and won't be playing in Portland again until June.
