New Music Video: "Jacuzzi" (Feat. Lushlife) - Antwon

If you couldn't already tell with the sporting of a Nothing band tee in the new music video for his track "Jacuzzi," Cali rapper Antwon has deep roots in Philadelphia, having been part of local hardcore outfit Leather. For his latest single, he also recruited Deli Philly fave Lushlife to spit a few fine-ass bars. The rose-filled video was directed by Gross N Mezzy.

New Track: "Jacuzzi" (Feat. Lushlife) - Antwon

When we last caught up with Lushlife (a.k.a. Raj Haldar), opening for Kooth Keith at Kung Fu Necktie, we learned that his upcoming album, which has been mostly produced by CSLSX, is inching closer to completion. He shared a new track during his set that was collaboration with Ariel Pink. And we're guessing that we'll also see a contribution from rapper Antwon, whom he just produced a single for and and spat a verse on. You can take a listen to the party vibes of "Jacuzzi" below, which will appear on Antwon's forthcoming EP Double Ecstasy, scheduled for release this summer. (Photo by HotBox Studio)

Lushlife & YIKES the ZERO Opening for Kool Keith at KFN Feb. 19

Legendary alien emcee Kool Keith will be gracing the stage of Kung Fu Necktie once again this evening for a sold-out show. Though he already performed last night (due to popular demand), this showcase is the one you want to be at with its killer local supporting lineup. Multi-talented producer/emcee Lushlife will be coming out of performance hibernation for this special event. Lush has been quiet of late, and we can only hope that it is because he's been focused in the lab preparing to drop a bomb of beats and rhymes on the world with his long-awaited follow-up to Plateau Vision. Also returning this evening to the Front Street watering hole is YIKES the ZERO and his DJ Caliph-NOW. YIKES has been a perfect pairing with our headliner for this two-night run. His eccentric releases and willingness/ability to collaborate with other artists represent what Kool Keith has accomplished throughout his storied career. This event is surely a celebration of the road less traveled in hip hop! Kung Fu Necktie, 1250 N. Front St., 7pm, $20 (Sold Out), 21+ (Lushlife Photo by Meredith Kleiber) - Q.D. Tran

LeBon LeBon Record Release w/Lushlife (DJ Set) at North Star Bar Jan. 24

Lifetime friends, Davey Cope and Damian Mason, who make up the local New Wave parody duet LeBon LeBon, planned on having a low-key release party for their debut album Devices. You know - they’d play some stuff off the record, and have some friends come to help them out, and maybe even sell one of their CDs. However, that quickly escalated into a more elaborate affair. Not only will there be choreographed dancing, campy costumes (complete with oversized sunglasses), and two opening bands... but Raj Haldar, a.k.a. Lushlife, South Philly’s most dope producer/DJ/emcee, will be spinning 80’s pop at the booth - not so low-key. Lushlife first blew away the blogosphere in 2009 with his mixtape, Cassette City, which maximized on long lost 90’s boom bap. 2013's Plateau Vision had the same style of indie old school hip hop, just on a whole lot of psychedelics and to a background of challenging philosophy. Lushlife is sure to set the scene for some serious grooving, and hopefully some of his own mind-altering beats. -North Star Bar, 2639 Poplar St., 9pm, $12, 21+ - Emily DiCicco

New Track: "O Glowing Hunter, O Lover of Beasts" (Lushlife RMX) - Joshua Stamper

Experimental jazz composer Joshua Stamper released a new LP entitled the skin, the sea, the sound this past April. He will also be dropping a track each week from his remix album of his recent spring release. On a righter rain will fall - the skin, the sea, the sound RMX, you'll find contributions from talented artists like Cassadra Jenkins (a.k.a. Eleanor Friedberger, Chris Ward (Pattern is Movement), Anthony LaMarca (St. Vincent, The War on Drugs), and many others. Stamper worked with Lushlife, a.k.a. Raj Haldar, for the first time when Lush recorded his "Toynbee Suite" for Shaking Through, and you can check out his daydream-y remix of "O Glowing Hunter, O Lover of Beasts" below.
