Marge

Weekend Warrior, September 29 - October 1

Synths interlaced with in-touch storytelling; Brandon Can’t Dance takes a cue from (Sandy) Alex G, demonstrating a keen intimacy with a somewhat laidback aesthetic. However, within that unreserved, let-loose, open-book approach, an unpredictability is preserved. What on the surface appears somewhat casual is twisting sonic textures in a playfully serious manner. Tonight, at The Inconvenience Store, he’ll be joined by Marge, whose ability to simmer in tranquil, fuzz-tinged melodies with scorching capabilities. The quintet of Past Life reels ya in via hard, searing guitars cooked into transparent, hook-laced narratives. This triad of locals is fortified by the bedroom folk of Molly Drag and the candy-coated songwriting of Abbie Kats, a.k.a. Chubby Bunny. – Michael Colavita

Weekend Warrior May 12 - 14

An immediate, determined sense of soulful urgency drips from Sheer Mag. Shrouded in sticky grooves united with decisively climbing guitar licks, the band seizes the opportunity, gathering the collective energy within the room and harnessing it into an exhibition, showcasing the duality, when vulnerability transforms into power. Fresh off the announcement of their forthcoming debut full-length Need to Feel Your Love, which will be available on July 16 via Static Shock Records, the former Deli Philly Artist(s) of Year bring their rippin' and roarin' chew ‘em up and spit ‘em out rock 'n' roll to First Unitarian Church this Saturday. The melodic, fuzz-speckled, bass-thumping garage-punk of Marge help to fortify this billing, which also includes Vancouver’s Weed.

Meanwhile, over at PhilaMOCA on the same evening, the bright, bubbling, psych-venturing pop of six-piece collective Circadian Rhythms gently stacks instrumental layers, melding refreshingly with its slightly off-kilter arrangements. The band will be celebrating its new record, A Peculiar Kind of Afternoon, supported by the sunny instrumentals of R.R. Perkins and the casually cloudy exploits of Mavis the Dog. - Michael Colavita

New Track: "Give It Time" - Marge

As a steady combination of fuzz and percussion provide a forward thrust, melodic semi-muffled vocals emerge in a new track from Marge, called “Give It Time,” giving way to a surprisingly delicate, inviting hook. While the quartet’s forthcoming album Bruise Easy won’t be released until September 4, the song is one of a trio that’s currently available for streaming, wetting listener's appetite for the complete record. Marge will be back in town with Littler, Arm Candy, Horse Girls, and Bad Heaven on Sunday, June 26 at LAVA Space.

Drawing Down The Moon the debut EP from the quartet of Swanning led by Cynthia Ann Schemmer (of Radiator Hospital) will be released will be released on May 27 via Salinas Records. This evening at the Waiting Room Schemmer is set to perform as a solo act.  “Sleep My Pretties”, the EP’s first single offers a balance of steady backend thump as her vocals are a blend of composed calm with an underlying agitated aggression. This evening she may provide furtherer insight into the framework of the new record/project.  Tonight’s show, which is a fundraiser for A First Time’s The Charm, includes the gritty garage-pop of Marge. The emotive-charged loner post-punk of Dog Tears (formerly known as Girl Dog) hit you with a sense of unguarded immediacy.  Topping things of Waxahatchee provides personal narratives that offer fly on the wall perspective revealing relatable imagery delivered with a relaxed yet resounding impact. The Waiting Room (Please contact one of the acts or venue for more information.), 7pm, $7-$10, All Ages – Michael Colavita

With their debut album Of Wandering officially being released tomorrow via Birdtapes (but you can stream it now over at The Fader), Littler will be performing a celebratory record release show this evening at Goldy's. The quartet trudges through the perplexing uncertainty of transitioning into adulthood, delving into the daily dilemmas with an open-book approach to narrative lyricism. The band finds a middle ground between steady-paced melodies and agitated release of aggression. NYC grunge duo Giant Peach rounds this bill into form. Goldy's, 723 Chestnut St. - 3FL, $5-$7, 7pm , All Ages – Michael Colavita
