New Track: "Bart To The Future, Pt. 2: The Musical" - Modern Baseball

Philly's own Modern Baseball just contributed a new track to 30 Days, 30 Songs (now 50 songs), a compilation written & recorded by artists for a Trump-free America. "Bart To The Future, Pt. 2: The Musical" is named after a Simpsons episode that humorously foretold of a Trump presidency. Well, we're not really laughing now, but hopefully we will be come Wednesday morning. So get out to vote tomorrow & FUCK TRUMP!

New Video: "Apple Cider, I Don’t Mind" (Live - Stereogum Sessions) - Modern Baseball

Recorded at Lollapalooza, this Stereogum Sessions perfermance has Brendan Lukens and Jake Ewald of Modern Baseball playing a stripped-down take of “Apple Cider, I Don’t Mind,” found on the band’s latest album Holy Ghost, which is available via Run For Cover. The instrumental simplicity enhances the aesthetic of intimacy, highlighting the deep, personal lyrical nature. Those expressions of hope and doubt intermingle, as one feels close like a member of the crowd.

Weekend Warrior, May 20 - 22

Tonight at Everybody Hits is the long-awaited release show for Thin Lips’ debut LP Riff Hard, coming out via local tastemakers Lame-O Records. Thin Lips are a venerable supergroup of longstanding Philly stalwarts who have hit a sweet spot of triumphant pop rock and confessional, introspective lyrics without sentimentality. Chrissy Tashjian, formerly of Dangerous Ponies and The Bee Team, captains this ship with her commanding, casual, and versatile vocals. The hard riffs are largely courtesy of longtime bandmate Kyle Pulley (ex-Dangerous Ponies) and Chris Diehm, a punk-rock lifer who cut his teeth in Lancaster’s 1994! before coming to Philly and lending his talents to Thin Lips, as well as Year Of Glad. The band is filled out by Mikey Tashjian (The Superweaks, ex-Dangerous Ponies), who shows his ability to shift rhythms and help craft intriguing songs, while maintaining a not-too-serious rock 'n' roll sheen. Celebrating with the Lips will be Casey Magic, Lame-O labelmates Lowercase Roses, folky psych rockers Pine Barons, and Pure Pop, a “new pop-punk trio comprised of Lame-O, Superweaks, and Modern Baseball angel babies.” Everybody Hits, 529 W. Girard Ave., 8pm, $5-$10, All Ages - Adam G.

New Music Video: "Wedding Singer" - Modern Baseball

Below is a new music video for Modern Baseball's track "Wedding Singer," which is the latest single from the group's forthcoming album Holy Ghost. In it, the lovable quartet is the house band inside the brain of the video's protagonist, who is having a shitty day until he hooks up with pink-wigged cutie driving a hearse. Things get a little Twilight Zone-y, but the romance eventually blossoms. Holy Ghost comes out on May 13 via Run For Cover Records, and the band will be doing a special in-store performance at Long in the Tooth on Thursday, May 12.

New Video: Tripping in the Dark (Modern Baseball Documentary)

Tripping in the Dark is a short documentary that explores Modern Baseball’s formation, and then provides personal insight into the events that shaped their recent past and the making of their forthcoming record Holy Ghost, which will be released on may 13 via Run For Cover Records. After recapping the band’s beginnings, director Kyle Thrash zooms into the heart-hitting, personal struggles of MoBo members Jake Ewald and Brendan Lukens. The death of his grandfather (a person who united his family) proved to be especially difficult, while Lukens experienced deep depression that caused suicidal thoughts and resulted in a diagnosis of bi-polar disorder. Thankfully, both individuals have emerged from those trying times; however, the documentary is a sincere gripping reminder that there is no shame in seeking help during troubled times.
