Weekend Warrior, November 25 - 27

Thanksgiving is a time for homecoming and festivities. And that's exactly what The Districts have in mind when they return to Philly for a little break from their fall tour. The hometown love is strong for the Lititz, PA transplants, so just one show might not be enough for their friends and fans this holiday weekend. Instead, they've setup a Trifecta of kick-ass, sold-out shows, with the help of some talented friends, that will be beginning this evening at Johnny Brenda’s. Tonight, the introspective beauty of Kississippi will be tugging at the heartstrings, after a dramatic, oddly spooky performance from Baltimore’s Albert Bagman. On Saturday, you’ll find The Districts joined by buzzworthy Philly newcomers Tangiers and The Dove & The Wolf. And finally, the Fat Possum artists will be hosting a very rare, all-ages show at JB’s on Sunday that also features alt-rockers Mumblr, who will be happily returning home from their own big tour. Johnny Brenda's, 1201. N Frankford Ave., 9pm (7pm - Sunday), SOLD OUT, 21+ (All Ages - Sunday) (Photo by Sarah Rudderow) - Bill McThrill

Grand Re-Opening All-Day Music Festival at The Fire Sept. 17

Summer may be starting to fade; however, before it’s officially in the rearview mirror, head over to The Fire for an all-day outdoor music festival celebrating the venue's Grand Re-Opening. Beginning at noon, the free event, sponsored by PBR as well as local brewing stalwarts Philadelphia Brewing Co., will be chock full of entertaining scenarios, including food and craft vendors, which one can indulge in whilst consuming the litany of performers. Among those slated for the task are the invigorating, bluesy, boozy Americana of Levee Drivers, the sun-kissed melodies of Archawah, the sleek and surging sound of New England’s Potty Mouth and the bare-and-booming, never-ending get down of Mumblr, so set up shop, catch some rays, and stay awhile. The Fire, 412 W. Girard Ave., 12pm-8:30pm, Free, All Ages - Michael Colavita

New Videos: "Mudmouth" & "Domingo" (Live - Out Of Town Films) - Mumblr

Mumblr recently spent some time with the folks from Out of Town Films at their Berks Warehouse HQ. The two resulting performance videos for “Mudmouth” and “Domingo” - both of which are featured on band’s latest release The Never Ending Get Down (Fleeting Youth Records) - display an alluring fragile yet volatile dynamic. “Mudmouth” gently wades in, before the gushing instrumental stream is opened, while “Domingo” immediately brews an ambiance of expansive, entrenching heaviness.

Weekend Warrior, Aug. 12 - 14

The lovely lo-fi bedroom rockers of Cherry, a.k.a. Russell Edling, will be filling the airy spaces of Everybody Hits tonight. His sound is placidly expressive and sweeps through introspective, somewhat dispirited soundscapes on a strikingly even keel. You can also witness Philadelphia’s favorite weirdo rockers Mumblr, back in action for another zestful, dizzyingly energetic performance. The band has made a name for itself in sweaty, dingy basements across the city with its anthemic pop-punk flair and intense live performances. Sporting a fresh catalogue of newly released material, now is a great time to see the band strut its stuff and turn up a little. Chicago’s Yeesh will be rolling through town with their aggressively mystifying post-punk a la Wipers or early Wire. Everybody Hits, 529 W. Girard Ave., 8:30pm, $5-$7, All Ages - Bryce Woodcock

New Music Video: "Ole" - Mumblr

Shot after hours at Han Dynasty’s Old City location, Mumblr’s new music video for “Ole,” found on their latest album The Never Ending Get Down (Fleeting Youth Records), interprets the song’s sexually tense subject matter via dance. Directed by Sean Brown, Scott Stitzer and Katy Ament demonstrate a playful intense energy, locking into that infectious yet seriously raucous vibe that the band has etched out. You can catch them next Tuesday at Goldilocks Gallery with Pill Friends, Past Life, and Tomato Dodgers.
