Mumblr

Weekend Warrior, June 10 - 12

Since coming onto the Philly music scene, Mumblr is a band that has been consistently churning out some seriously interesting material. Led by the versatility of frontman Nick Morrison’s vocals, the quartet continues to refine its sound on its newest LP The Never Ending Get Down, which is out today via Austin-based label Fleeting Youth Records. I’m totally rooting for these guys to get more national attention and tours in the near future, and their latest album is sounding like another big step in the right direction. Tomorrow night, you can catch Mumblr tearing through songs from their new record as well as some of their older favorites at PhilaMOCA. It’s a rad lineup in which you also find the blistering “shitpunk” of Mannequin Pussy and the post-something power-gaze of Amanda X. PhilaMOCA, 531 N. 12th St., 8pm, $10, All Ages - Alexis V.

New Mumblr Album Available for Streaming

A fragile, on-the-edge, emotive exposure develops as the easily combustible, inwardly-isolated yet outwardly-rushing sound is created by Mumblr on their new record The Never Ending Get Down. While it won’t officially be released via Fleeting Youth Records until June 10, the quartet has revealed it over at Stereogum. Catch their record release show this Saturday, June 11 at PhilaMOCA with Amanda X and Mannequin Pussy

Boy Lawyer EP Release Show at KFN June 2

The trio of Boy Lawyer celebrates the release of their new EP Decades Don't Matter tonight, as a part of a locally linked lineup at Kung Fu Necktie. Compromised of Enrique Gasparini, Steve Fitzpatrick, and Pat Higgins (all of whom have previous ties to the now defunct Dead Tenors), the new project expands upon instrumentally thematic threads, inviting a fresh open-air sound, with crisp, stretching lines, and the boost of backing vocal harmony feeling near with an eye on the far. This evening, they’ll be joined by the genre-boundless gravitational pull of Colins “Bear’” Regisford, a.k.a. The City & I, while the energetic emotive bursts of Spill and the exposed fragile punk rush of Mumblr, whose new record The Never Ending Get Down is due out June 10 via Fleeting Youth Records, cement this show into place. Kung Fu Necktie, 1250 N. Front St., 8pm, $6, 21+ - Michael Colavita

New Music Video: "Three Leg Dog" - Mumblr

Mumblr recently shared a new single, "Three Leg Dog," off their forthcoming record The Never Ending Get Down. The tune is also accompanied by a music video that was directed by the band's bassist Sean Reilly. The album is due out on June 10 via Fleeting Youth Records, and the group will be hosting a release party the following evening, Saturday, June 11 at PhilaMOCA with Mannequin Pussy and Amanda X.

Weekend Warrior, May 13 - 15

This weekend is the second annual Love on the Streets Festival. Held at Paines Park, it is an all day festival that supports the Franklin Pains Skatepark Fund (FPSF) in its attempt to spread the love of skateboarding and support urban culture in and around the city. While last year the festival filled the park with circus performers, artisan coffee, and a mess of food trucks, this year is really upping the ante in terms of entertainment. Wahoo Tacos, along with The Electric Factory, will be sponsoring a skating competition, where the lucky winner will take home $2,000. New this year are a couple key cogs that were missing last year. First and foremost, Beer. There was not a beer as far as the eye could see last year. Unfortunately, it will be coming from a Budweiser Beer Garden so you might just want to bring your own. Live art has been added to the mix, with renowned graffiti artists Distoart and Getup to make the festival a multi-sensory experience. Another enticing addition this year is a Flea Market with over 40 vendors selling a vast array of lightly used treasures that are just waiting for a good home.

The music is also a strong suit of the festival once again, bringing both variety and congruity to make for an eclectic but fitting lineup of artists. There is a bit of a punk tinge to this years lineup, with artists like Mumblr, JANK (who have a great new album Awkward Pop Song coming out May 20 on Creep Records), Lithuania (DRGN KING's Dom Angelella and Dr. Dog's Eric Slick), and Steady Hands (a.k.a. Sean Huber from Modern Baseball). Other artists include The Obsessives, Vicky Speedboat, Plainview, Endless Taile, and RFA. For the skate competition and throughout the day, there will be tunes complimentary of Fishtown Beats, Frank Sriracha, and Aurize. All in all, a pretty dope collection of happenings that are sure to be a good time for a good cause. Paine's Park, N. 24th St., 12pm-10pm, Free, All Ages - Adam G.
