Power Animal

New Power Animal Album Available for Streaming & Purchase

We've been enamored with the production abilities of Keith Hampson, who records and performs under the moniker of Power Animal, for years now. We remember receiving his early demos on CD-R (remember those!), and obsessively listening to the beautifully textured tracks on our headphones, in awe of the recordings' creativity and originality. We highly recommend that you grab yours and take Hampson's long-awaited, new album, Good Wind, Part. 1, for a spin below, and grab yourself a copy while you're at it because 50% of its Bandcamp sales will be donated to The Emergent Fund, "an organization launched in the wake of the 2016 election to support grassroots movements in marginalized communities." Enjoy!

Weekend Warrior, November 17 - 19

Passionately personal songs, which complimentarily cross between the traditional country/folk realms, exploring modern ambiance, Shock Out Of Season (Orindal Records), the new album from Friendship, delves into personal depths. Dan Wiggins' vocals subtlety drip with emotion, as the scenes presented, seem stitched into one’s consciousness, presenting an image and then digging into its layers of meaning. The reverberating tightly woven instrumental fabric allows those words space to breath as one collects their thoughts. Tonight, Friendship celebrates its arrival at Everybody Hits, where Power Animal will also be commemorating a fresh, new album, Good Wind Pt. 1 (Human Kindness Overflowing), which inhabits a close, lyrical proximity that simultaneously pedals toward the future. Engaging tones and tempo line the periphery, while sensitive, soothing, stacked vocals unite in illuminating harmony. The co-headliners will also be joined by the invigorating storytelling of Free Cake For Every Creature, setting this billing up as one whose candle burns from beginning to end. New Track: "Soil" - Power Animal

Power Animal’s forthcoming album, Good Wind Pt. 1, will be released on November 10 via the band’s charitable label Human Kindness Overflowing (with 50% of proceeds going to The Emergent Fund). “Soil” alludes to a time of death, as a percussive clap climbs, occupying the same space as a choral sample. A reflective self-awareness meshes with a beat-centric intensity, producing a heavy awakening affect. Don't miss their dual record release show with Friendship next Friday, November 17 at Everybody Hits, where they'll be supported by Free Cake For Every Creature and Tall Friend!

New Track: "Light Elating Everything" - Power Animal

It's been quite some time since we've had a new album from Deli fave Power Animal, a.k.a. Keith Hampson. Good Wind Pt. 1 is currently scheduled for release on November 10 via his charitable record label Human Kindness Overflowing, with  50% of its Bandcamp sales going to The Emergent Fund. Now, fortified into a four-piece, the band’s new single, “Light Elating Everything,” swirls in an electro-bouncing cloud of cathartic, thankful ambience. Amid the perpetual groove, an open letter of intimacy unfolds. They'll be hosting a dual record release celebration with Friendship on Friday, November 17 at Everybody Hits, with additional support from Tall Friend and Free Cake For Every Creature.

Weekend Warrior, September 30 - October 2

Delicate is a concise characterization of the new album from Hello Shark, a.k.a. Linc Halloran. Officially released today via Chicago’s Orindal Records, the album plays like an unhinged door into Halloran’s head. Lyrically keen observations, anecdotes, and imagery paint an autumnal exposure as the songs mimic the soon-to-be sparsely-adorned trees. One gravitates toward the uninhibited exposure reminiscent to Pavement and Bright Eyes, as that relatable, melodic sense of melancholy aches with honesty and shivers with warmth. Encoding the fresh breath of catharsis with dense yet airy pockets of samples and instrumentation, Power Animal, a.k.a. Keith Hampson, captivates, while the enchanting, low-key serenade of Seattle’s Mega Bog and the bright but turbulent tones of Baltimore’s Amanda Glasser complete this billing.
