Thin Lips

New Track: "My Mouth Is Skinned Like An Apple" - Thin Lips

The lady and gents of Thin Lips just shared their second offering from the band's forthcoming LP Riff Hard. "My Mouth Is Skinned Like An Apple" is filled with natural pop vocal melodies, which have always seemed to come effortlessly to Chrissy Tashjian (Dangerous Ponies, The Bee Team); however, the track eventually gets to the business of staying true to the group's album title. Riff Hard comes out May 20 via Lame-O Records, and Thin Lips will be celebrating its arrival that evening at Everybody Hits.

Weekend Warrior, March 11 - March 13

Thin Lips are heading off on tour in support of their 7-inch EP release, Divorce Year (Seagreen Records), and will be hosting a hometown send-off show this Saturday night at Everybody Hits. The album showcases the band’s spry, hooky tunes that seem to indulge in equal parts Aughts pop-punk anthems and heavy Jawbreaker-style 90’s riff punk, which doesn’t make the naming of their forthcoming LP, Riff Hard (due out May 20 via Lame-O Records), that surprising. (You can check out the new music video for their latest single "Never Again" below.) Fellow slaves to the riff The Max Levine Ensemble will also be performing on the bill tomorrow, flaunting their lively, inexhaustible, sometimes political pop punk that tips the cap to turn of the millennium bands like Rise Against. Worriers will be on hand with a more subdued, pensive approach to the genre. And don’t miss Bellows, who will start the night on an intimate tone with delicately composed bedroom jams. Everybody Hits, 529 W. Girard Ave., 8:30pm, $8-$10, All Ages - Bryce Woodcock

The Superweaks, Thin Lips, & Dogs On Acid Complete Lame-O Records "Rock Residency" at Boot & Saddle Jan. 28

Lame- O Records residency at Boot & Saddle goes out with a bang this evening with a formidable lineup. The Superweaks concoct their own brand of power-pop, one, which unites thick twin-lined guitar riffs forging a path for the memorably melodic universally emotive lyrics.  Torn from a personal place, the band showcases internal grit, fleshed out in consistent streamlined swells. The tenacious tug and pull pop punk of Thin Lips whose new record was recently completed will join them. Recently returned from a run of tour dates Dogs On Acid complete this strong billing. Boot & Saddle 1131 S. Broad St., 8pm, $8, 21+ -Michael Colavita

Thin Lips Opening for Des Ark at Everybody Hits Dec. 11

Vulnerable while exhibiting commanding strength, Chrissy Tashijan’s emotively powerful vocal style demands one’s attention. Reinforced by the ever-percolating rhythm section and opportunistic, memorable guitar riffs, Thin Lips sound is potently short-fused. One steady charge after another bursting with narratives that touch on frustration and heartache with a fierce edge. Shannen Moser’s delicate, honest approach gets things started, inviting you into a transfixing intimate space. With captivating lyricism and instrumentation that can be minimal and at others moments a force to be reckoned with, former Philly native Des Ark (a.k.a. Aimée Argote) headlines in support of her new record Everything Dies. Everybody Hits, 529 W. Girard Ave., 8:30pm, $10, All Ages - Michael Colavita

Three Man Cannon Record Release Show at PhilaMOCA Nov. 12

Three Man Cannon celebrates their freshly released record Will I Know You Then, via local indie label Lame-O Records, with a show this evening at PhilaMOCA. This record has a crispness with melody and lyrics that lasso you in; the four-piece continues to refine its sound. The songs exhibit an explosive capability while remaining reeled in until those moments arrive, letting the weight of the words breathe into your system, punctuated by a jagged edge of guitar riding a the tender sway. Tonight, labelmates Thin Lips offer support, wielding a meshing of intense, emotive vocals, smacking backend and heavy power riffs. Mimi Gallagher (Year Of Glad, ex-Nona) will be hitting the stage solo, while Augusta Koch (Cayetana) and Candice Martello (Hemming) will be performing a set together. It’s just another night at PhilaMOCA that you won’t want to miss. PhilaMOCA, 531 N. 12th St., 7pm, $8, All Ages - Michael Colavita
