EFG bring their psych rock to The Echo on 5.5

Psychedelic rockers EFG boldly embrace a heavily-textured array of driving, over-amped guitars that brings back a certain bravado to the genre. It serves to mention that all of its members are veterans in this kind of setting, as Imaad Wasif (lowercase, Yeah Yeah Yeahs), Josh Garza (Secret Machines) and Tom Biller (Liars, Warpaint) all have a steady track record within the modern noise/experimental persuasion. Their most recent single, Outlier”, seamlessly merges reverbed guitars and pounding drums with a strong sense of pop melody that falls somewhere between classic Detroit rock and cosmic krautrock.

The band is opening for Swedish psych-rock institution Dungen at the Echo tomorrow, May 5th. The “Outlier" 7’’ is currently available for purchase via bodankuma.com. - Juan Rodríguez

Gothic Tropic unveils new single at Resident on 05.30 + geeks out about pedals on Delicious Audio

Cecilia Della Peruti is a creative force to be reckoned with in the LA scene. Her band Gothic Tropic's musical output could be seen as a permanent effort to defy categorizations: disparate influences like rock, pop, ambient, African melodies and even jazz find a place in her repertoire, without affecting its cohesiveness. The band is about to unveil a new single on May 30th at Resident, so we thought it would be a good opportunity to refresh your memory about their music with their best single to date ("Flesh Dance, streaming below). We also took the opportunity to organize a Delicious Audio feature focused on Cecilia's guitar pedals!

The Bribes

The Bribes have released a new EP, Dust Tapes, based on a series of dreams that singer/songwriter Philip Toscano was having in which he died. It may seem like a somber project, but the spirit and sound the ep is more upbeat and catchy then you might imagine.

New Track: "The Dead Are Dumb" - Nothing

May 13, the release date for Tired of Tomorrow (Relapse Records) is rapidly approaching. And while we wait for it to drop, Nothing has issued another single, “The Dead Are Dumb,” which you may recognized from the second episode of Nothing's documentary. The song stews in a reserved, reflective, somber state, slowly sinking into the senses. The band’s hometown record release show will be held at Union Transfer on Friday, July 8 with additional support from Citizen and Culture Abuse, as well as Mary Lattimore & Jeff Zeigler.

New Hurry LP Available for Streaming & Purchase

Matt Scottoline and the Hurry gang have scraped away the fuzz on their new LP, giving us a polished powerpop album in Guided Meditation. The band just released its latest recordings on vinyl and in digital format via Lame-O Records and on cassette via Forward Fast. You can join them in welcoming the album's arrival this Friday, May 6 at Everybody Hits with Cave People, Telepathic, and Chris Farren.
