The Echoes- "Night Like This"

Put on your best pair of fingerless leather gloves and dark sunglasses and prepare to get your synth inspired groove on to song ‘Night Like This’ by Austin’s own The Echoes, a four-piece indie-electronica act composed of vocalist Lauren Mlady, Adam Ellis on guitars and synth, drummer Lacey Lewis, and John Thomas, who composes and takes care of the sampler and synths.

The Echoes have been together a little over a year now, and describe themselves as part EDM, part post-punk and part 80’s synthwave- basically a 2015 version of New Order except fronted by the deliciously unrefined but posh vocals of Mlady. For some reason the phrase “white girl rage” kept crossing my mind while listening to this song and I attribute this strange subconscious word association to Mlady’s post-prog punk vocal stylings that teeter on the edge of sexual agony. ‘Night Like This’ is an addictive electronic dalliance veiled in New Wave panache, and with any luck we’ll hear more music from the up and coming electronica band soon.

In the meantime, check out The Echoes ‘Night Like This’ below, and come back here for the latest on the group.

Quiet Hollers Release Video for Unexpected Cover

Louisville indie alt rock/country 5-piece Quiet Hollers have been garnering some serious attention after their self-titled release late last month. Their blended 10-song concoction has hints of folk, post rock and sad bastard country with strong notes of personal insight and woe. "Quiet Hollers" is definitely one of those albums best listened to on long drives in your car... where it's ok to cry.

But the guys offer more than introspective narratives and solid hooks. They have a great sense of humor.

In response to a request made during crowdfunding efforts, Quiet Hollers have released a cover video for Madonna's "Material Girl." And it is oddly amazing. Give it a try below and catch them 12.5 at The Basement. -Caroline Bowman

DENIM SKELETONS Release "Into The Fright"/Mississauga Release Show

DENIM SKELETONS like it eerie, grimey and loud. The spacey four piece bring a different kind of energy to their music, with a creepy garage-rock vibe underneath a squeeky-clean sheen of beautiful songwriting and production. Leading up to the release of their first full-length album, “Into The Fright”, they’ve teased us with one last single to wrap our heads around. “Mall Doll” alternates between a slow trudge, sparce and spine-tingling, and a beautiful punk-waltz. It hits hard, blasting a wall of noise that is both pretty, and pretty frightening. Layers upon layers of meticulously etched out instruments, noises and vocals paint a picture worth screaming about. They’re hosting a big release show with a ton of other local talent, be at Clarke Memorial Hall in Mississauga, Nov 27th.
