Premiere: Guy Fox - Antique Furniture

It's an absolute pleasure for us to premiere the San Francisco based band, Guy Fox's new single, Antique Furniture! Guy Fox's brand of avant indie pop music is always well produced and encompasses unique electro-pop touches that raise the bar for emerging independent artists who yearn to stand out from the crowd. Their upcoming full length album, Night Owl will be released on August 21st! Night Owl embarks into evolutionary territory for the band. Staying true to their signature sound this record is a listenable version of the energetic live set for which they’ve become known for.

Peter Granquist can be found behind the drum lending vocals along Nate Witherbee who also plays host to synthesizer, guitar, piano and song writing. Greg Waters primarily contributes guitar and saxophones, while bassist Charlie Moore accompanies on vocals and synthesizer.

"This album is the labor of nearly two years of recording at Tiny Telephone Studios in Sand Francisco's Mission District. We sculpted each track over days of recording, using analog equipment to construct the most unusual, ear-catching sounds we could find and recording them to 2 inch tape. The album's theme is the aimlessness and endless reinvention that is a communal trait of today's 20-somethings. These themes are set to upbeat, dance grooves, trying to convince the listener that the answer to life's uncertainties can be found in the release of a good dance party." -Peter Granquist

DC's emerging experimental electronic producer DÉVÅZ releases a dark, ambient EP

DC based artist DÉVÅZ released his first EP this May titled "Narcissist". The sound is lush and mysterious, sometimes pulling samples from unlikely sonic-pals Ariana Grande, Drake, Charles Manson, Billie Holiday, Interpol, Anna Kendrick, and Iggy Pop (to name a few) into a foggy, paranoid brew. This is a mix for the listener who likes their house music in the context of a psychological thriller (or maybe an H.P. Lovecraft narrative guessing from the aesthetic of the album art). Though washed and ambient in structure, the beats keep this twisted story on fast, nimble feet from beginning to end. We're looking forward to further releases and hoping this newcomer will start DJing some of our local haunts.

There’s going to be a lot of history hanging out and performing at The Night Light tonight. Enjoy some great music as these hardworking musicians show the crowd how it’s done!

Wicked Man Releases Single - Soil Leaking Water

Oakland's Wicked Man is an undeniably unique act with influences ranging from Fela Kuti and Ali Farka Touré to the songwriting prowess of John Prine and Andrew Bird. The group’s new single, Soil Leaking Water is an eclectic blend of bluesy fingerpicking, soaring synths, electronic drums, and darkly haunting vocal melodies.

The track is birthed in sounds of sweltering, trance-like guitar licks, comes of age in its jazzypopfunk groove, and builds strength with eclectic frontman Yonatan Tietz’s soulful vocals, keyboard master Andrew Kunz’s synth work and drummer/percussive coordinator Max Denny’s self-sampled electronic functions. As a band, their sound has evolved and expanded upon the bold 2014 debut Fingership EP, growing into a more intricate tapestry of fantastically enticing rhythms that leaves us all chomping for more.

Give this track a listen. Hell, give this track ten listens. Put it on at yer July 4th backyard BBQ. It’ll grow on you, that’s for sure. Wicked Man will be releasing their next EP in September and touring the West Coast in the fall. More info is available on their official website, wickedman.com. - Justin Kohlberg
