Showcase Alert: Throwin' Bo's Presents at The Elbo Room (11.14) Healing Potpourri, April Magazine, & Half Stack

Good things must once again come to an end it seems. It was announced in October that the beloved Elbo Room would be shutting down on January 1, 2019 -- and with it will go the monthly Throwin' Bo's at the Elbo Room showcase. Founder Eli Anaya, however, will continue to book and promote shows under the name Throwin' Bo's Presents, and tonight will be his second to last show ever at The Elbo Room. The bill is stacked with all locals. Healing Potpourri will bring along their classic easy-listening lounge-psych, which should fit right in with the lo-fi jangly rock of April Magazine. Half Stack will be performing live for the first time since the release of their psych-influenced California country LP Quitting Time. Come experience what may be one of your last shows at the Elbo Room, and maybe sing along to a few swan songs while you're there. Prepare by streaming some of our favorite tracks from these artists below. - Lilly Milman

Throwin' Bo's presents a night with Healing Potpourri, Half Stack, and April Magazine at Elbo Room Wedensday, November 14 @ 9pm $7 adv, $10 DOS // 21+

Wooden Rings "A Bell"

Chamber-Folk group Wooden Rings has released a new track called “A Bell”. This is the group lead by songwriter, guitar player, and vocalist Ramah Jihan Malebranche with Nathan Stanley (Drums), Alex Brescanu (Bass/Vocals), and Elizabeth Arakaki (Vocals/Glockenspiel). This is their first single since 2016 and it focuses on our inability to take things back and unring that bell.

Wooden Rings will be performing on November 17th at Catcus Club in Milwaukee.

Navy vet and songwriter Jared Ashley releases video for "Cherrybend"

This past weekend was Veterans' Day, and The Deli Nashville just so happened to get the perfect track in our inbox to feature in honor of that. Singer-songwriter and Navy veteran Jared Ashley put out a music video for "Cherrybend", a new song from his upcoming album. The song's title comes from Operation Cherrybend, an annual event in Wilmington, OH that seeks to spread awareness about veterans' issues. "Cherrybend" follows in that operation's footsteps; in the music video, Ashley highlights that 22 veterans commit suicide every day. He wrote the song and acts in the music video as a tribute to one such veteran, Jeffery “Ozzy” Otzwik, with whom Ashley served in the Navy. Ashley hopes that with the song and the video, people might start to understand the issues that veterans face, and help create spaces for them to relax, unwind, and get the support they need. You can watch the video for "Cherrybend" below. (And of course, The Deli Nashville thanks Ashley for his service.) - Will Sisskind
