Sporting Life's warped tunes live at Trans Pecos tonight (05.20)

NYC's mad programmer Sporting Life’s samples are unconventional. They mix hip-hop and techno beats that work for dancing. The rest, however, is a warped mindfuck. Tons of repeated bleeps and blops, vocal effects, frantic percussion—no space left empty. Impossible to ignore. The listener is left with no choice but to reckon with it. The man just released new clangy single 'Move' (streaming), which seems inspired by guns and videogames. He is playing a sold out show at Trans Pecos tonight (05.20), with Actress. - JP Basileo

TOPE Releases New Video - Better Place

It's been almost a year since rising Portland artist TOPE packed up his bags, dropped the single Miss Me When I'm Gone, and moved to Oakland to pursue music full time.

TOPE has released the visual for the Stewart Villain produced single, Better Place. Directed by Evan Croker and filmed in some of San Francisco's most iconic locations: Dolores Park, Clarion Alley, Grace Cathedral, and the Golden Gate Bridge - visually, Better Place might be TOPE's most striking video to date. Lyrically, TOPE picks up where he left off on MMWIG. He gives us the details on his move to the Bay, personal life, budding music career and much more over a classic Lauryn Hill sample freaked by one of the NW's top producers.

NYC rapper ELUCID releases political LP 'Save Yourself'

“You want it all, but it can’t save you,” explains Brooklyn rapper Elucid regarding the title of his new release 'Save Yourself.' A prominent member of the eminent Backwoodz Studioz label, Elucid’s polemic vocals complement his Sonic Youth cum Trent Reznor noise collage beats. The album is transformative. It’s a meditation on life, inequality, love, and racial disparity. As more and more of our heroes disappear and disappoint, his advice is well heeded. - BrokeMC
