Shoegazer

Sooner flashes shoegaze-pop in latest EP, play Brooklyn Bazaar 06.13

Brooklyn’s Sooner lets each of its influences shine on their own in its 2018 EP Stranger, and, with that name, a My Bloody Valentine reference shouldn't catch any shoegazer fan by suprise. The band does an excellent job of flashing some serious shoegazing in between their jangly pop tunes. Snappy drum beats and easy-going vocal melodies make way for furious guitar drones and elaborate basslines drenched in dfuzz. Songs like “Humid Air” and “Notes from Underground” (streaming) gradually build up, slowly revving up each instrument for a grand climax. The ease with which the band switches up their intensity keeps the listener engaged, while sonic layers are added and removed as the song progresses. The group has kept busy since releasing their EP by playing a string of shows throughout Brooklyn, a string which will continue on June 13th with a gig at Brooklyn Bazaar. - Rene Cobar

New Lester Album Available for Streaming & Download

We Could Have Been Anywhere, the new release from Lester, occupies a cozy, mercurial dynamic. As though rocketing through space with a clear singular focus, while the tumultuous nature of the outside world occurs within sight, these songs have an allaying effect. Uniting vulnerable vocals with volatile instrumentation, the band creates an ebb and flow that pulls you in and then pushes you away. It's heavy, and it still feels like home. Pink Acid Wash - Psych/Noise Rock CMW Set 05.10 at Monarch Tavern

Toronto psych band Pink Acid Wash has released a new single “Grinning”. This noise rock track has a lot going on including a deep drawling vocal over top of a thumping drum beat and dirty bassline. The droning guitar will make your head spin which makes the vocals speak directly to your brain. Pink Acid Wash play a CMW Set on Friday May 10th @ The Monarch Tavern with Brenda, World News and Red Mass. – Kris Gies

New So Totally Album Available for Streaming & Purchase

A somber, slow-burning haze cultivates a particular kind of comfort when listening to In The Shape Of…, the new record from the quartet of So Totally. Those hypnotic qualities, created by the soft, somewhat whispered vocals and the steady progression of music, can quickly be thrown off kilter by jarring instrumental shifts and turns. A cathartic, gentle, swaying calm is combated by the escalating inferno of fuzz that potentially awaits around any given corner. Get comfortable, but maybe not too comfortable. Reptaliens at the Wonder Ballroom 05.26

Tomorrow, April 25th, Reptaliens will be playing the Wonder Ballroom with Turnover and Turnstile. Reptaliens will be releasing their album Valis the following Thursday, April 26th. The band has been incredibly busy this month, managing to release not one but two music videos. You can check out the Deli's coverage of their music video for "Shuggie II" here. This was in addition to playing shows at SXSW and Treefort. They’ve been amping up all month, so make sure you come out and see what's going down.
