Laura Cole: Laura has a knack for always staying in the news. She drops a hit record, wins awards, saves children's activities from banishment and most recently toured the East Coast. Oh yeah....and she just released a new single with Harvey Summers that was recorded in the United Kingdom. The sultry vibes ooze from this Laura Cole track as only she knows how to do. I dig the trumpet and of course the bass lines are the best. (The track features Laura Cole Band member Chris Charcios on the bass). Watch her video but more importantly go watch the Laura Cole Band at the TD Stage on Sunday at 3:15.

The Sadies: You probably know who the Sadies are already and if not...hopefully you like country, rock n roll, surf and garage rock perfectly blended. The Sadies manage to do it all. This Toronto band has been around for years, releasing a whole heap of albums and touring constantly. Maybe you've seen them rip it up at the Horseshoe on New Years Eve? Either way, they're playing Supercrawl on Saturday Night! 9 bells at the Hamilton Airport Stage!

Terra Lightfoot: Terra is a Waterdown gal who's playing music for years. She has had a successful solo career and is also a member of local favorites "The Dinner Belle's". She's known for her folk/country tunes and amazing voice but recently released a new record that shows that she is ready to rock! "Every time My Mind Runs Wild" has some straight rockin' tracks like "No Hurry" and "Never Will", the latter has been getting steady play on mainstream radio. She still shows off her softer side as the album rolls on but it's nice on the ears. Terra plays on Friday Night at the Hamilton Airport Stage at 9:15

The Vaudevillian: The Vaudevillian is one of the coolest acts around. They are straight outta the 20s. Pure rag time music that makes you feel you're in that exact atmosphere. Brendan on guitar and whatever else he can play while sitting there, Willow on washboard. They may have some guests join them at any time on stage as well. Maybe not even on stage...these folks set up and play wherever they want. I highly recommend their album "Salty Dog" and they'll be headlining the TD Stage at 10.

Pet Sun: Pet Sun isn't one of my favorite local band right now...they are one of my favorite bands right now anywhere. There is a definite buzz about them right now and it's mostly coming from their amps. They play loud and fuzzy and tight and headbangin'. They have released one single from their upcoming album. Its called "Never Quit" and it kicks ass. They've always had a doomier Stooges feel to me. Expect their debut full length album in October. Get to Supercrawl early and watch Pet Sun at 7 on the TD Stage. I hear the singer/guitarist Stephane likes to crowd surf....

This fest celebrates and works to promote and preserve the spirit of psych music in San Francisco. Founder, Dennis Gonzales is very passionate about his work and his efforts to support psych musicians from all over the US. The Gathering Of The Tribes is a festival centralized exclusively in itself and its own breed of musicians and artists. San Francisco has had other festivals in past years, but this one aims to showcase the Bay Area’s breed of psychedelia and its sub-genres, as well as celebrate its musical and artistic ancestry. The name is borrowed, or you could even say revitalized—resurrected—from the Human Be-In that took place in Golden Gate Park, January 14, 1967. This is when Haight-Ashbury became symbolically immortalized as a counter-culture mecca. Our festival celebrates San Francisco’s past and present, and aims to push forward its music and arts in a positive and progressive direction, preserving it for the good of the Bay Area and to keep things groovy.

Hopefully you got that reference. But no, we’re the San Francisco Great Society. 

Founder, Dennis Gonzales: I've been running Pow Magazine since 1986 and being entrenched in the music community for several years as a social media journalist, I can tell you SF music is not only alive, it is about to explode into a new movement unlike anything seen since the first music scene in 1965. Everything about our Society and our festival is a familial, grass roots effort.  Amoeba is sponsoring the event—they too have promoted it on their Facebook page as well as Twitter. Pow Magazine, Counter Culture Artist Management, and Innerlight Presents are altogether presenting this festival. We have reached out to the best of the Bay, and most have said “yes.”

Clay Andrews of The Spiral Electric and Innerlight Presents: If the festival is comprised of bands that are all touring and far away, and everybody has all their records—that’s great and all; you have to bring people to the event, but at the same time it’s like—don’t just throw a fest where you just bring an import of things because that’s not really doing anything for the local scene. It’s not exposing people to what’s actually happening right now in their backyards.

Derek See SF DJ, musician and music collector: One thing I’m especially excited about is hearing and meeting bands that I don’t know even though they're local. Because of what i do for a living, i have to get up real early in the morning on weekends—I do go out and see live music when I can, but never as much as I’d like to, whereas at this festival I’m just super stoked to be able to experience and hang out with like-minded folks.

The Oakland based songwriter, Ezra Furman has released a new music video for the band's new single, Lousy Connection. Ezra's new song is their commentary on the human connection and how complicated it has become to communicate clearly with others. The video gives its starring role to a number of raw eggs, making the video a bit odd, but that's to be expected from such an out-of-the-box artist like Furman! The artist's latest album, Perpetual Motion People is now out on Bella Union.

Perpetual Motion People, Ezra Furman's first album for Bella Union delivers a cascade of memorably bristling hooks driven by a unique splicing of timeless influences, delivered with a restless urgency and combative spirit that shines through the American's vocals and lyrics.
